Teams of fearless adult and children tricycle racers get a chance to show off their peddling skills – and help provide affordable child care in Staunton – during Community Child Care’s second annual Tricycle Relay Race on Sept. 10. Teams made up of police, EMTs, firefighters, church members, fraternal organizations, or just three hard-to-embarrass friends are all encouraged to set aside their adult woes and join the fun. Registration starts at 9 a.m. at Sunspots Pavilion, 202 S. Lewis St., and races go on there from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. Along with being a blast for the racers, and maybe even more fun for onlookers, the race is an important fund-raising event for Community Child Care. This local United Way agency has provided affordable, quality daycare for the Staunton area for 45 years. The organization, located just off West Beverley Street, has served hundreds of local children and is currently caring for more than 60 children. Fees are based on a sliding income scale to make the service as available as possible. The Sept. 10 downtown event will feature separate trike races for children and adults. To participate, each three-person team makes a minimum donation -- $100 for adult teams and $30 for child teams. The donations are tax deductible, and teams that pre-register by Aug. 26 are guaranteed a T-shirt. To pre-register for the races, go to www.Eventbrite.com and search for “trike race” in Staunton or look under Browse Events. The Community Child Care Center is located at 32 Park Boulevard.
