Reading Rainbow Young Writers & Illustrators Contest Winners
Over 300 illustrated stories were submitted by children in grades Kindergarten through third grade. Entries were sent from school divisions across the WVPT service area, including Winchester, Lynchburg, Charlottesville, Highland, among many others, as well as entries from children homeschooled. Stories were judged by over twenty educators, librarians, business leaders and WVPT staff. This year’s contest is sponsored by McDonald’s of Albemarle, Augusta and Rockingham Counties and The Daily Progress of Charlottesville is the media partner.
The following winners were announced at an Awards Reception at the WVPT studios in Harrisonburg on April 30. Donna Hughes, the Youth Services Division Head for Handley Regional Library in Winchester and Storyteller, was the keynote speaker for the program. Ronald McDonald and Cubby, the WVPT Bear were on hand for the festivities as well.
