P. BUCKLEY MOSS MUSEUM
WVPT—Virginia’s Public Television has also produced a video tour of the P. Buckley Moss Museum located in Waynesboro. The museum opened on May 12, 1989, in Waynesboro, Virginia, to permanently record and illuminate the Moss phenomenon through educational exhibitions, lectures, permanent collections and archival files. It has become a place for people to "rediscover" some of the traditional meaning in Pat’s art. Pat Moss' story is told and illustrated over and over in the Museum's main gallery, as visitors are exposed to some of the best examples of her artistic creativity.
Even the Museum building itself is Moss-inspired. The steeply pitched roof and building design evoke images of Pat’s own Valley structures so prevalent in her art. The main floor displays a retrospective of her life and work in the gallery’s permanent collection. The upper floor houses her oils, etchings, Virginia pieces, religious art, archives and more. The lower level contains the sales gallery and a miniature Moss-inspired dollhouse.
As the camera visits the Museum in this video tour, you’ll discover what inspired the artist and defined her style, the symbolism behind her favorite images, and the messages she seeks to convey. As the seasons of her work pass before your eyes, you’ll glimpse the depth of talent and passion, as well as the character of this remarkable artist.
The tour DVD will be available at wvpt.net for purchase.
“You really have to work,” P. Buckley Moss concluded. “You have to work and work and work and work. And in doing the work, that’s where you discover, ‘Oh, this is who I am! Look, this is who I am! I’ve done it here. I’ve done it here and here. This is spontaneous. I didn’t realize it. But this is who I am. This is where my vision is or whatever.’ It’s wonderful because you keep discovering that and you have to be open to discover that all the time.”
The P. Buckley Moss Museum Tour was produced by Ed Bickel.
