Thursday, May 15, 2008, marks the celebration of two significant points in time—the 40th anniversary of WVPT—Virginia’s Public Television and the 75th birthday of renowned artist P. Buckley Moss. United nearly 30 years ago with a shared commitment to empower children and provide culturally enriching experiences, WVPT and artist P. Buckley Moss have enjoyed a remarkable relationship.
On May 15, 2008, their anniversary and birthday will be shared and celebrated on WVPT with a gala evening, the premiere of a new documentary on Moss’ life and career, live vignettes with the artist, and the on-air auction of framed Moss prints. The sale of the framed prints will support the broadcast of enriching programming on WVPT for children and those who appreciate the arts, a tradition P. Buckley Moss began with the station nearly 30 years ago.
At 7:30 p.m., a special 30-minute program highlighting area framers’ expert treatment of Moss’ latest original for WVPT—“Winter’s Peace”—will showcase framed prints #5—9. The live, telephone bidding on these pieces begins at 7:30 p.m. and lasts throughout the evening. At 9:30 p.m., additional prints (#1—4, 24 and 30) will be added to the live auction.
Also at 7:30 p.m., special guests will arrive at WVPT’s studios to participate in the gala festivities with the artist, her family and WVPT staff. The celebrations will also continue throughout the evening and be featured on-air.
At 8:00 p.m., the premiere of a special, locally produced documentary P. BUCKLEY MOSS: THE LADY BEHIND THE BRUSH will feature Moss’s extraordinary life and career. In between segments of the program, P. Buckley Moss and others will share comments and insights live, and a live auction of framed prints #1—5 of “Winter’s Peace” will give viewers opportunity to purchase Moss’ latest creation that is exclusive to the WVPT Moss Portfolio.
