P Buckley Moss

For the past 27 years, P. Buckley Moss has donated an original print to WVPT to benefit the station's culturally enriching programs and series. Proceeds from the sale of prints made from each original have made possible the broadcast of many children's series, as well as "Great Performances," "Masterpiece Theatre" and many others. Known as The People's Artist, P. Buckley Moss chose "Lifelong Learning" as the topic for the current series because of her love for children and her passion for learning. Three hundred fifty-one prints have been made from this original to sell. Moss will continue to donate original prints to WVPT, but this is the last series she will create to benefit Virginia's Public Television.

Entitled "Off to School," (far right) this newest piece features a father driving his daughter to school in a horse and buggy along a roadway adjacent to an apple orchard. Moss' unique and distinctive style brings a special warmth to this scene. "Off to School" completes the triptych series and appears as the right-hand piece in the trio. The triptych's center piece-"North Mountain Academy"-picturing a one-room schoolhouse with children in the schoolyard was unveiled in 2005. The second piece in the triptych-"Morning Recess," the left-hand piece-was unveiled in 2006 and shows children playing a short distance from the school near a mountain cabin. Each may appear singly or together as a trio.
