Each year for the past 27 years, world-renowned artist P. Buckley Moss has created an original watercolor especially for WVPT—Virginia's Public Television.  Each year, prints of the original are made and sold exclusively through WVPT to support the broadcast of culturally enriching programs and series on WVPT.  Known as "The People's Artist," P. Buckley Moss is a patron of the arts and is a champion for children with learning disabili\ties.
 
  "Morning Recess" is the second of three prints in the triptych series entitled Lifelong Learning, that artist P. Buckley Moss created exclusively for WVPT—Virginia’s Public Television. A triptych is a series of three images that are hung together to form a complete scene. (“North Mountain Academy”—the 2005 print—is the anchor of the triptych. (If presented as a triptych, “Morning Recess” should be hung to the left and the 2007 print “Off to School” should be hung to the right of “North Mountain Academy.”) The three may be presented together or separately. This charming cabin depicted by artist P. Buckley Moss is typical of this type of structure found in rural Shenandoah Valley at the turn of the century. A rain barrel sits close by the front porch collecting drinking water. A white wicker rocker sits ready for use on the front porch. The children are playing ring-around-the-rosie in the foreground. A dirt path leads off to the right toward the school house. The background reflects a sun-warmed fall morning. Autumn is in the air as the landscape features barren trees and the sky is awash with blue hues.
