Each year, prints of the original are made and sold exclusively through WVPT to support the broadcast of culturally enriching programs and series on WVPT. Known as "The People's Artist," P. Buckley Moss is a patron of the arts and is a champion for children with learning disabilities.
"Ash Lawn-Highland" is the fourth and final print in the Presidential Homes of Virginia series that artist P. Buckley Moss created exclusively for WVPT—Virginia’s Public Television. This print, from 1996, is a stately portrait of the Virginia landmark located in Charlottesville. President James Monroe and his wife, Elizabeth, owned Ash Lawn-Highland from 1793 to 1826 and made it their official residence from 1799 to 1823. After President and Mrs. Monroe's death, the name of their farm was changed from "Highland" to "Ash Lawn"; today both names are used. Ash Lawn-Highland was opened to the public in 1931 and bequeathed to the College of William and Mary, James Monroe's alma mater. Currently, Ash Lawn-Highland is a historic house museum, 535-acre working farm, and performing arts site in Albemarle County, Virginia.
